1 November: “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie

Objective:

I can analyze how the writer's use of stylistic elements contributes to a work of literature's effects and meaning and how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme (RL 3 & L 3).

Entry Task:

As you come into class, grab your binder and prepare to play a round of Blooket to study for our upcoming quiz.

What’s Going On:

Today we will read our next unit text: “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie. As we have done before, we will read and discuss the text, answer a few questions in response to the text, and analyze an example writing prompt and response; however, we will take into consideration everything we have covered about strong writing to also discuss how the example can be improved (not just its strengths). After reading and discussing together, you will write to make connections to our unit themes.

Exit Task:

Keep your writing clipped into your binder to finalize as needed later this week before you submit it for feedback.
