16 September: Lexia Reading Assessment

I can focus and take my time to show my current reading skills using a computer-based reading assessment to help me set personal goals regarding my current reading ability (RL/RI 10).

Entry Task:

As you come into class, clear your desk of everything except your closed laptop and personal headphones. As you wait for instructions, consider how you would assess your personal reading ability; do you feel prepared to fully comprehend the reading you will be required to do outside high school?

What’s Going On:

Today we will use Lexia to complete a reading skills assessment. You will need to work individually with headphones connected to the computer. Follow the directions below to get started:

2. Enter my email address:

3. Click “Save”

4. On the next screen… Click ‘Student’

6. Enter Username: student ID # (just your #, not your email address)

7. Enter Password: your birthday (MMDDYYYY)

8. Click “Sign In”

9. Follow the short tutorial

10. Follow instructions to complete 3 sections:

  • Comprehension (20-30 minutes)

  • Word Study (5-10 minutes)

  • Grammar (5-10 minutes)

You need to complete all 3 in 1 sitting

Exit Task:

Take your time to accurately show your reading skills through the Lexia program. If you finish with remaining class time, first check Skyward for any missing or redo work. You may then select a poem as an extension assignment for our unit or read a new story to have more options to discuss in next week's essay.
