Objective:
I can overview a selection of poetic devices and identify their use in poetry (L 5).
Entry Task:
As you come into class, discuss with a neighbor takeaways from yesterday’s webquest. Be prepared to share. After our short discussion, log in to Google Classroom to complete a short listening assessment using EdPuzzle: What Makes a Poem a Poem?
What’s Going On:
Today we will be overviewing a variety of poetic devices to prepare for our focus on poetry from around the world. We will be starting together with discussions on poetry from the Middle East. Together we will use your vocabulary list to identify examples of poetic devices as stand-alone lines and complete a Formalist analysis of a poem together.
Exit Task:
To end our time, we will have a little competition with a poetic devices scavenger hunt. Work with a group of up to three people to locate the specified poetic devices; once your team completes the first page, come show me your results to move on to the next search. First team to complete all rounds wins!
